Annual scholarship program supports continuing education.

Please note: The scholarship application period begins January 1 of each year and runs through March 31 for general scholarships; applications for CPE scholarships are due February 15. The application will be available beginning January 1, 2019.

One of the many benefits of APCO membership is the opportunity to participate in the association's Scholarship Program. Silent Key and CAC Scholarships provide funds to APCO Full, Associate and Agency Group Members* that may be used for professional development and career advancement .

*Agency Group Online Members may qualify for scholarship funds for APCO Annual Conference expenses only.

Scholarship Fund Use

Scholarship funds may be used for all APCO Institute courses, as well as the Registered Public-Safety Leader (RPL) and Certified Public-Safety Executive (CPE) programs. Scholarship funds for APCO Institute courses and programs – including the RPL and CPE programs – will be available at the time of registration. Up to $500 of a scholarship award may be applied to travel and/or living expenses to attend an APCO International educational event, including APCO's Annual Conference & Expo.

Selection Process

Applications will be reviewed and scored by the APCO Institute Advisory Committee (ADCOMM). The ADCOMM will provide their recommendations to the Executive Committee for review prior to award notification.

Completion of Funded Courses

Scholarship recipients who use the award for Institute courses or programs must complete the registration process between July 1, 2018, and June 30, 2019. All courses must then be completed by July 31, 2019. Recipients who use the funds for the RPL or CPE programs must only begin those programs between July 1, 2018, and June 30, 2019

About the Scholarship Programs

The Silent Key Scholarship program was initiated as a way to honor individuals who, in their lifetime, contributed to the industry and association. The scholarships afford these individuals an eternal means of helping to develop those who will follow in their footsteps as leaders, mentors, and public safety communications professionals.

The Commercial Advisory Council (CAC) Scholarship Program Fund was initiated by the Commercial/Corporate Advisory Council as a means for its commercial members to give back to the public safety community. Scholarship funds are received through the CAC and administered by the APCO Institute. Fund donations are accepted throughout the year and disbursed for public safety job-related training.
