APCO Advises FCC on Pending 9-1-1 Issues

On September 21, APCO met with staff for Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairwoman Rosenworcel to discuss several 9-1-1 issues. Regarding an FCC proposal to facilitate implementation of Next Generation 9-1-1, APCO reiterated positions from its comments that the FCC action must be aligned with the approach outlined in federal NG9-1-1 funding legislation and urged the FCC to adopt interoperability requirements for the service providers. Separate from NG9-1-1, APCO expressed support for FCC action to require wireless service providers to implement location-based routing and to explore additional avenues for ensuring that 9-1-1 centers receive actionable location information in the form of dispatchable location.
