APCO Seeks Comments on Candidate National Operational Standard Minimum Technical Requirements for Remote Support to Emergency Communications Centers (ECCs)

Alexandria, VA – The Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) International is seeking comments on candidate American National Standards (ANS) Minimum Technical Requirements for Remote Support to Emergency Communications Centers (ECCs).

The remote support standard outlines the essential technical and operational requirements for personnel working from a remote location. It details expectations for connectivity, contingency planning, privacy and security safeguards, and quality assurance measures. It also addresses Quality of Service (QoS), Key Performance Indicators for ECC personnel (APCO 1.118.1‑2020), protocols for coordinating multi‑person incidents remotely, and compliance with CJIS and HIPAA requirements.

“As ECCs adopt new technologies and expand remote capabilities, the remote support standard provides clear, consistent and forward‑looking guidance to ensure that public safety professionals working remotely are supported with the technical and operational requirements they need,” said Jack Varnado, president of APCO International.

The public may review and comment on this candidate standard from February 27 through April 13, via the APCO website.
