The FCC has launched the process to select a 4.9 GHz Band Manager, an entity that would protect incumbent public safety operations, help coordinate and promote efficient and more intensive use of the 4.9 GHz band, support deployment of advanced technologies and manage spectrum-sharing arrangements. The Commission is seeking nominations for a band manager selection committee, which will be responsible for evaluating applicants and making recommendations to the FCC regarding the entity best qualified to serve as the Band Manager. Nominations are due by October 28, 2026. The Committee is expected to be established by December 28, 2026 and hold its first meeting in January 2027.
