Alexandria, VA – The Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) International has filed a Project Initiation with ANSI to revise and redesignate the APCO/NENA American National Standard (ANS) Emergency Communications Center (ECC) Service Capability Criteria Rating Scale.
This standard focuses on refining the definitive assessment tool that enables ECC managers to objectively evaluate their operational capabilities and identify clear pathways to optimal preparedness. Your expertise will directly impact the revised standard that guides how ECCs across the nation prepare for and respond to both natural disasters and complex emergencies. APCO seeks ECC users, product producers and those with a general interest in ECC operations and equipment to participate in the working group.
“The APCO/NENA Service Capability Criteria Rating Scale represents a critical evolution in how we measure emergency preparedness across our nation’s ECCs. This standardized assessment framework doesn’t just evaluate where we are—it provides the roadmap for where we need to be,” said Stephen Martini, president of APCO International. “In an era of increasingly complex emergencies and evolving threats, having objective, measurable criteria for operational readiness is essential.”
The working groups will meet virtually on the first and third Thursdays of each month at 11:00 a.m. ET for 50-minute sessions. Participants will earn points toward their Registered Public-Safety Leader (RPL) recertification and receive recognition for their contributions to the final published standard. To apply, complete the online application at Join a Working Group; the deadline to sign up is July 31. Selections will be made within two weeks of the closing date, and all will be notified of their status via email.
