Alexandria, VA – The Motorola Solutions Foundation, the charitable arm of Motorola Solutions, has awarded a generous $50,000 grant to the Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) International to support the APCO Silent Key and Commercial Partner Scholarship Program. This funding will help provide emergency communications professionals with greater access to education, training and professional development opportunities through the APCO Institute.
The APCO Institute is the training and educational division of APCO and is the largest provider of emergency communications training in the nation. The Institute offers a broad range of learning opportunities, including in-person instruction, virtual courses and online courses, as well as key leadership programs such as the Certified Public-Safety Executive (CPE) Program and the Registered Public-Safety Leader (RPL) Program. The scholarships awarded allow public safety communications professionals to pursue professional development opportunities, earn valuable certifications and advance their careers.
“Investing in the training of our emergency communications workforce is critical to the future of public safety,” said APCO President Jack Varnado. He expressed his appreciation for Motorola’s continued commitment to the scholarship program saying, “Thanks to this grant, more public safety professionals will have access to the training and certifications that set the standard in our industry. We are proud and grateful for our continued partnership with the Foundation in our shared mission to strengthen public safety in our communities.”
APCO members may apply for scholarships beginning on January 15, 2026. Funds awarded may be used for APCO Institute training and professional development programs offered between July 1, 2026, and June 30, 2027.
