APCO Life Member and long-time Illinois police and communications officer T. G. Mieure passed away on June 17.
Mieure was a pillar of Illinois APCO for decades and a respected voice in the international APCO community. He served as an officer with the Gurnee, Illinois, Police Department and before that as a public safety telecommunicator in Lake Forest, Illinois. Mieure was deeply involved in APCO leadership, contributing to APCO’s growth and professionalism.
Mieure began training programs for telecommunicators and wrote training manuals for agencies in Lake Forest and Gurnee, according to a 1991 PSC Magazine article about his career. He served as a telecommunicator and as a police officer.
Among the Illinois APCO offices that Mieure held were treasurer, second vice president, first vice president, and president (1992–1994, 2000–2002). He represented Illinois APCO on the APCO International Executive Council and remained actively involved in chapter operations across several terms. His steady hand and procedural expertise were assets to the board, and his commitment to service impressed those who served alongside him.
Mieure served on the APCO Historical Committee for many years and authored the widely read “Then and Now” column in PSC Magazine. He also served as an editorial adviser to the magazine. He was known for preserving the profession’s history and mentoring others through his thoughtful perspective and deep respect for the evolution of public safety communications. He served on APCO’s Management Committee, working on branding and strategic planning.
