Silent Key: Robert “Bob” Cook

While attending training at a nearby agency on Thursday, January 23, 2020, Davie County (North Carolina) Telecommunicator  experienced a sudden cardiac arrest. Following 27 minutes of continuous CPR, Bob did regain a faint pulse and was taken to a local hospital for stabilization. He was later transferred to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C. After spending nearly a week in ICU, Bob passed away on the afternoon of Friday, January 31, 2020.

Bob served as a public safety telecommunicator with Davie County 911 since 2016 and was also an active member of North Carolina APCO.

His obituary notes that before entering the public-safety communications industry, Bob had served as a Youth Pastor.  It goes on to say that, as a 9-1-1 telecommunicator, “He loved his work with both Davie and Iredell County 911 and especially drew fulfillment from talking with those contemplating suicide, and helping to lead them away from that choice.  In many ways, his ministry extended to his work at 9-1-1 as he literally worked to save lives.”
