This week, the Federal Communications Commission announced the members of its Communications Security, Reliability, and Interoperability Council (CSRIC), including APCO’s Chief Technology Officer Stephen Devine. CSRIC, now in its tenth term, is a federal advisory committee that provides the FCC with recommendations on a broad range of public safety communications priorities and challenges, including NG9-1-1 and national security matters.
Of note, the FCC is seeking participation in CSRIC working groups by those with relevant subject matter and technical experience. There are six working groups:
- Working Group 1: National Security Implications of the Dark Fiber Market
- Working Group 2: Ensuring Submarine Cable Security and Resiliency
- Working Group 3: Malicious SIM Farm Mitigation
- Working Group 4: Reducing Common Causes of Sunny Day Outages
- Working Group 5: Expanding NG911’s Multimedia Availability and Increasing 911 Accessibility
- Working Group 6: Enhancing Communications Network Security (focused on Advanced Persistent Threats and Ransomware Attacks)
We encourage our members to consider lending your expertise to these efforts. More information, including how to apply to be a working group member, is available in the FCC’s Public Notice. Applications to participate as a working group member are due by June 11, 2026.
