The FCC has released a fact sheet to raise awareness of the 9-1-1 requirements for multi-line telephone systems (MLTS). In 2019, the FCC adopted rules that require MLTS, such as those used in schools, hotels, and office buildings, to support direct 9-1-1 dialing (meaning the capability to reach 9-1-1 without first dialing a prefix, such as “9”), provide location information with the 9-1-1 call, and send notifications to a central location when 9-1-1 is dialed. The FCC’s fact sheet helps clarify these requirements for MLTS managers, operators, and installers, and includes helpful resources to support education and compliance. The fact sheet is part of a broader initiative to ensure the MLTS requirements are implemented as intended and deliver meaningful benefits to 9-1-1.
