On April 28, APCO urged the FCC to retain important public safety requirements in the face of requests for deregulation in the FCC’s “In re Delete, Delete, Delete” proceeding, which seeks public feedback on rules the FCC should eliminate. While APCO recognizes the FCC’s interest in removing unnecessary regulatory burdens, APCO urges the FCC to retain important public safety regulations that promote the public interest. For example, APCO highlights the importance of retaining 9-1-1 outage notification rules, ensuring that emergency communications centers (ECCs) have necessary situational awareness regarding potential communications outages that might affect their ability to receive and respond to 9-1-1 calls. In addition, APCO emphasizes the need to retain dedicated 800 MHz spectrum for public safety use. APCO notes that dedicated 800 MHz public safety spectrum is essential to ensuring ECCs have the spectrum resources they need to fulfill their lifesaving missions. APCO will continue to monitor this proceeding.
