APCO Calls for Writing Group Members

APCO International is seeking writing group members to participate in the creation of ANSI standards in the following areas:

  • Wireless 9-1-1 Deployment & Management Effective Practices Open or Close
    APCO International is seeking writing group members to participate in the revision of the APCO ANS standard for Wireless 9-1-1 Deployment & Management Effective Practices.

    The revision will ensure that the standard continues to provide PSAP (Public Safety Answering Point) managers with a better understanding of the wireless 9-1-1 technology application and the ability to better manage wireless calls as well as first responder expectations.

    APCO is looking for a well-balanced group that will include contributions from technical and operational subject matter experts. The time and day that the writing group will meet are yet to be established.  It is anticipated that the writing group will meet via conference calls bi-weekly for the duration of this project.  Calls typically last no more than one-hour per session.

    All interested persons should complete the online application and indicate their preference for this writing group at Wireless 9-1-1 Deployment & Management Effective Practices.

    Application deadline is February 28, 2018.  Selections will be made within two weeks of the deadline and all applicants will be notified of their status.

Standards Review and Comment

As an ANSI-Accredited Standards Developer and in an effort to maintain an open process, APCO is required to publish draft candidate standards for public review and comment. Any person (organization, company, government agency, individual, etc.) with a direct and material interest has a right to participate by:

  1. expressing a position and its basis
  2. having that position considered, and
  3. having the right to appeal.

APCO is reaffirming and seeking comments on a Candidate American National Standard (ANS) that enables disparate PSAPs and other authorized agencies to share incident disposition information.  Candidate ANS APCO 1.111.2-201X Public Safety Communications Disposition Codes for Data Exchange is open for public review and comment.
