Emergency communications centers face unique challenges in dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic. Experts from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) will answer your questions and provide facts to help 9-1-1 centers reduce risk and maintain operations. Additionally, you will hear a 9-1-1 director’s perspective on the situation on the ground.


Capt. Lisa Delaney is the Associate Director for Emergency Preparedness and Response at CDC’s National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health where she coordinates NIOSH’s response to emergencies. She is serving as the Worker Safety and Health Team lead in CDC’s COVID-19 response.

Robert Smuts is a Deputy Director for the San Francisco Department of Emergency Management, where he leads the Emergency Communications Division. Robert is an experienced administrator with a background in emergency management and public safety.
