CONFERENCE AND MEETING SERVICES INTERN

APCO International, a not for profit organization in the Daytona Beach area has an excellent opportunity for an energetic and creative intern to work in our Conference and Meeting Services Department. Intern will assist the Conference Department staff with all aspects of event planning, organization, and management of the association’s Annual Conference, Winter Summit and all other association meetings and events. Intern will also assist with planning and on-site execution of APCO’s Annual Conference & Exposition. Internship will involve assisting with marketing, event logistics, housing, travel and transportation, tradeshow planning, registration services, vendor, sponsor and exhibitor communications, mailings research, event signage, working with attendees to answer questions regarding the events and conference facilities and providing other office support as needed.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone trying to balance work/school as you will work on your own time. 15-20 hours per week. People skills, dependability, and professionalism a MUST! Candidates for this position must also be internet savvy, proficient in Microsoft Office products, disciplined, dedicated, resourceful and articulate. Strong research and writing skills are also a plus. Hospitality, Marketing, Business Management, or Communications major preferred but not limited. You must be comfortable on the phone, able to multi-task, and highly organized. It is preferred that you have interest in event planning.

NEXT GENERATION 9-1-1 PROJECT COORDINATOR

APCO International, a principal player in the public safety communications arena, is seeking a Next Generation 9-1-1 Project Coordinator to serve as the staff lead in next generation 9-1-1 emerging technologies. The position will be housed in the association’s Washington, D.C. office.
The Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials is the world's oldest and largest not-for-profit professional organization dedicated to the enhancement of public safety communications. In addition to the D.C. office, the headquarter facility is located in Daytona Beach, Florida. APCO International is comprised of thousands of U. S. and international members.
As staff lead in these emerging technologies arenas, the NG9-1-1 Project Coordinator will serve as staff liaison and will provide support and subject matter expertise to staff, APCO committees, taskforces, workgroups and projects while developing and representing APCO International’s position related to these matters.
The primary duties include:
- Perform research and reporting and provide general technical reference support and information on NG9-1-1 efforts and emerging technologies with special emphasis on ongoing forums (to include meeting attendance and presentations) such as ESIF, NENA TDC/ODC, NENA’s Next Generation Partner Program, US DOT NG9-1-1 Project, etc
- Monitor federal/regulatory action relating to NG9-1-1 and emerging technologies and provide reports and recommendations for action
- Develop/recommend position statements, comments and materials for use by APCO International members/staff when making formal presentations, interviews, testimony, reports or recommendations
- Represent/relay department and APCO International’s position on matters relating to NG9-1-1 efforts and emerging technologies at industry tradeshows, conferences, seminars, symposia, workshops and meetings including development/delivery of presentations as needed
Minimum experience requirements include:
- Baccalaureate degree in a related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience that is determined to be directly related to the foregoing specific requirements may be substituted.
- Minimum five years work related experience
- Management or supervisory experience in a public safety communications agency desirable
- Strong knowledge of emerging technologies related to public safety communications
- Strong organizational, communications, and interpersonal skills are necessary
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook required
- Ability to work independently in a deadline driven environment and exercise initiative and judgment
- Willingness to travel with frequency
Salary range for position is $52,000-$58,000. The position will be a limited tenure arrangement for a two year assignment with the possibility of renewal at the conclusion of the term.

MEMBER SERVICES INTERN

APCO International, a leading not-for-profit public safety communications association with offices located in Daytona Beach, FL, is seeking an intern to staff our Member Services Department. This position presents the ideal opportunity for the student who has future plans to enter a business, or computer field and wants the chance to exercise those I.T. and administration skills. Join the group who serves as a primary interface to the organizations 15,000 members.
The intern will perform administrative and related functions as needed to support the activities of the department and the needs of our important customers. The primary responsibilities will include web page development, updating style sheets and sql scripts. Other responsibilities will include the development and tracking of reports and spreadsheets, data entry of customer prospects, maintaining customer/member records, updating the database, delivering correspondence via print mail and e-mail, generating and processing invoices, updating contact lists, and interface by telephone. The individual will need good organizational, verbal and written communications skills, functional use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook; use of html, style sheets, sql scripting, understanding of documents and form preparation.
Pay for the position starts at a minimum of $9.00 per hour and can accommodate schedules of 20 to 40 hours per week.
