APCO SEEKS COMMENTS ON PROPOSED STANDARD FOR PUBLIC SAFETY COMMUNICATIONS TRAINING COORDINATORS
September 7, 2010, Alexandria, Va. – The Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) International released for comments the proposed draft of a candidate American National Standard (ANS) for public safety communications training coordinators.
Public safety communications training coordinators are typically tasked with the planning, development, coordination, implementation and administration of training within a public safety communication center. This draft standard seeks to define the knowledge, skills and duties of the individual responsible for a public safety agency’s training program as well as their responsibilities for providing training to individuals in this critical function.
“On behalf of public safety communications professionals across the nation, APCO International has diligently worked to provide another useful tool and resource for public safety communications centers and professionals,” APCO International President William Carrow said. “This continual collaboration of industry experts can only increase the high degree of professionalism we all seek within our agencies and throughout our profession.”
Over 50 different public safety communications training coordinators representing over 50 different public safety agencies throughout the nation participated in the research for this candidate ANS. A total of eight occupational analysis workshops were conducted across the nation to assist with developing this candidate ANS.
