APCO APPLAUDS FCC FOR 700 MHz ACTION

July 31, 2007, Washington, DC – The Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) International today applauded the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for adopting rules today that will open the door for the deployment of a nationwide interoperable broadband communications network that will be designed, built, and maintained to meet public safety requirements through the use of a public-private partnership model.

"We applaud the FCC for taking this bold step to address the future communications needs of our nation's first responders," APCO International President Wanda McCarley said. "We have worked long and hard in recent months to help the FCC forge this order in a manner that will benefit public safety to the maximum degree possible. While we need to review the text of the FCC's order, it appears that the commission has addressed most of our concerns."
