APCO ANNOUNCES PUBLIC REVIEW AND COMMENT PERIOD FOR CANDIDATE AMERICAN NATIONAL STANDARD

July 9, 2007, Washington, DC – The Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) International, announced today the beginning of a 30-day public review and comment period for APCO International's first candidate American National Standard (ANS), The Minimum Training Standards for Public Safety Communications Training Officers (CTO).

APCO International's Call Center Standards Committee developed the standard to provide training necessary to foster levels of consistency for training officers providing on-the-job training and to promote the leadership role of the CTO in a public safety communications center. The standard was approved by APCO International's membership earlier this year and is currently being submitted through the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) approved APCO International voluntary consensus process to become an ANS. To review and comment on the candidate ANS starting July 6 visit www.apcostandards.org.

"Active participation in the development of standards is very important for public safety communications," APCO International President Wanda McCarley said. "APCO encourages its members to review and comment on any standard that may affect our industry. As an ANSI-Accredited Standards Development organization, APCO International ensures balance, lack of dominance, and due process when developing standards and provides opportunities to address all interests and to work together toward a common solution."
