APCO AND IJIS REAFFIRM PARTNERSHIP FOR PUBLIC SAFETY INFORMATION EXCHANGE
March 28, 2007, Washington, D.C. -
The Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) International met earlier this month with the IJIS Institute, a not-for-profit organization established by the Department of Justice (DOJ) to focus on justice information technology, to reaffirm their partnership and collaboration in the areas of information exchange and data interoperability.
The partnership with the IJIS Institute focuses on improving information sharing in justice and public safety. Past work between APCO International and the IJIS Institute has resulted in the current Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD)-to-CAD and CAD-to-Records Management System (RMS) data exchange standards, available on the APCO International website at http://www.apcointl.com/about/911/standards.php.
APCO and IJIS will continue to develop standards in this area and will pursue other activities including focusing on communications centers as key to interoperability, the production of an industry white paper on data exchange standards and procedures and the development of functional specifications for consolidated communications centers.
