March 20, 2007, Washington, D.C. -
The Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) International announced today that David Furth, deputy chief of the Federal Communications Commission's (FCC) Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau, and Steve Proctor, director of the Utah Comm Agency Network, will be receiving the Leadership in Regulatory Service and Leadership in Advocacy Awards, respectively. The award presentations will be made at the APCO International Third Annual Public Safety Communications Leadership in Policy Awards Dinner at the Park Hyatt in Washington, DC on April 19.
Furth is receiving his award for his exemplary dedication as a public servant on issues of concern to public safety. Specifically, he is being honored for his shepherding of the 800 MHz issues.
"David has been very open to working with the public safety communications community on the rebanding issues and supportive of our issues throughout the entire process," APCO International President Wanda McCarley said. "His daily work on these and many other issues serve as an example of the best in regulatory service."
Proctor is receiving his award for exemplary dedication in providing guidance on legislative and regulatory issues of concern to public safety communications at a national level. Specifically, he is being honored for his support of APCO International's policies by testifying on their behalf before the House Homeland Security Committee.
"Steve is a highly respected member of APCO International and the public safety communications community," McCarley said. "His continuous work for our industry and our organization has earned him many awards, but we are incredibly honored to recognize him as the true policy leader he is."
The APCO International Annual Public Safety Communications Leadership in Policy Awards Dinner is the premier event bringing together the policy leaders within the public safety communications community to honor those who have vigorously worked to create, advocate, and promote public safety communications policy.
