St. Tammany Parish Fire District 12 - Unifire Dispatch Implements APCO EMD
November 19, 2007, Covington, LA - Last month, St Tammany Parish Fire District 12 - UniFire Dispatch implemented the APCO Institute Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) Program.
St Tammany Parish Fire District 12 - UniFire Dispatch serves 10 separate fire districts including the areas of Madisonville, Lacombe, Mandeville, Folsom, Lee Road/Barkers Corner, Talisheek, Abita Springs, Bush, Sun and Covington, La. with an annual call volume of approximately 15,000 calls. All of their 12 full-time dispatchers have at a minimum APCO EMD, Basic Communications and Fire Dispatch training in addition to HAZMAT awareness certification. Most have received their Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification as well.
The APCO Institute EMD Program, based on EMD Guidecards and software, is a systematic way to manage emergency medical services (EMS) resources in an organized and effective manner and to provide medical assistance to callers, when needed, until medically trained field response units arrive at the scene.
