President Elect Chris Fischer
 Chris started her career with Valley Communications Center on 8/1/77, the first day of operations of the newly formed Valley Communications Center. She was one of 11 dispatchers hired for the new Center and previously worked as a dispatcher for the Renton Police Department.
She first worked as a dispatch supervisor and then promoted to Deputy Director in 1980. In that role, she established and administered hiring/screening and selection processes, developed the agency training program, supervised the shift supervisors and had responsibility for overall com center operations. After the rather rapid departure of Director #5, she was appointed as Director in Sept 1987. During her 15 year tenure, she has facilitated the growth of the agency to a staff size of over 100 employees and a service area of approx. 275 sq. miles and population of approx. 605,000. Valley Com now provides service to 25 police and fire departments as well as all eight Medic One units.
During this time, Valley Com as acquired a fifth partner, the City of Federal Way and funded and transitioned to a new state-of-the art facility. Under Chris's leadership, Valley Com has achieved national recognition as the first CALEA Accredited Com Center in the State of Washington, first on the West Coast and the eighth nationwide. Valley Com is recognized as a leader in Public Safety Communications, both nationally and at the local level.
Chris chaired the Governor's Advisory Committee on E9-1-1 for the State of Washington, Criminal Justice Training Commission's Telecommunicator Standards and Training Program Oversight Committee for the past 7 years and has been active at the national level on many committees regarding public safety communications for the majority of her career. She is currently the President Elect for APCO, International.
Chris officially retired from Valley Com on August 15, 2007 and continues to fulfill her responsibilities to APCO as a member of the Board of Officers. |
