In accordance with the decision made by the Project MESA Quorum during our April 2007 meeting in Portland, Oregon, the Project MESA Steering Committee has scheduled a short series of meetings in Baltimore, Maryland, on Monday, August 6 and Tuesday, August 7, 2007. The meetings will be held in the Baltimore Hyatt Regency as noted below. The primary purpose of these meetings is to discuss with the public safety user community the Project MESA Statement of Requirements (SoRs) and our partners in industry’s interpretation of those requirements in the form of functional requirements.
Project MESA Technical Specifications Group (TSG), comprised mainly of broadband network equipment manufacturers and carriers, has spent a tremendous amount of time to develop their interpretation of our SoRs and converting those requirements into a working document currently known as the “functional requirements matrix.” In tandem with that work, the TSG, in cooperation with the users, have approved a high level physical architecture, with the expectation that the applications and service sections will be completed by fall 2008. It is anticipated that, as these documents mature through user input and industry discussions, we will achieve consensus on a suite of specifications that will meet public safety’s long-term demands for high-speed, broadband data service and serve as the basis for a family on international standards.
