In addition to AFC's permanent staff, there is a network of Local Frequency Advisors (click here for list) throughout the United States. Local Advisors are APCO members who, on a volunteer basis, perform the technical analysis for the coordination process. There is no substitute for Local Advisors knowledgeable in the RF field and familiar with local politics, terrain and Regional Plans.

APCO maintains the Local Advisor Network in order to provide the absolute best frequency coordination available. Local Advisors receive formal training annually along with being sponsored by AFC to attend the National Conference every year which includes refresher training opportunities. Training involves the use of APCO's proprietary frequency coordination software, license and applications database, and sophisticated RF engineering software as well as FCC regulatory issues and coordination policies and procedures. The typical Local Advisors receives approximately 20 hours of ongoing training per year. New Local Advisors recruited for the role receive one on one training sessions at APCO's headquarters and are mentored throughout their trial period.

Along with training, APCO provides Local Advisors with computer hardware in order to facilitate their ability to perform quality frequency coordination.
