Project 41 Members Sought

APCO International is looking for members interested in serving on the APCO Project 41 Committee. Project 41, entitled Project LOCATE - VoIP and Emerging Technology Location Delivery Challenges (Project LOCATE-VoIP), is a part of the Project LOCATE (Locate Our Citizens At Times of Emergencies) Series and will address the impact upon operational practices facing the public safety communications industry specific to Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and related technologies.

APCO Canada and NENA Ontario Present "9-1-1 in Any Language"

APCO Canada and NENA Ontario are pleased to invite all members involved in public safety communications to APCONENA2006 in Toronto September 30 to October 4.  This is the premihre conference and trade show this year in Canada recognizing the expertise of the public safety telecommunications professional from around the world, featuring over 50 exhibitors and Commander Steve Gordon of the New Orleans Police Department as one of the keynote speakers.  Visit www.apco.ca/conference for more information.

APCO RETAINS to be featured at Missouri Chapter Conference

The APCO Project RETAINS Team will be presenting an overview session on Project RETAINS at the 2006 Missouri APCO Chapter Conference in Jefferson City, MO. Project LOCATE to Present Effective Practices and Deployment Assistance Handbook at Illinois Public Safety Conference

On October 25, APCO Project LOCATE, in a special session at Illinois Public Safety Conference, will report on the recently completed assessment of the consistency and accuracy of location data received with Phase II wireless calls. In addition, Project LOCATEs Deployment Assistance Handbook will also be shared and effective strategies for wireless Phase II deployment discussed as Project LOCATE hosts a one-on-one opportunity for discussion with any PSAP representatives that are still struggling to achieve wireless 9-1-1 deployment within their service area on Tuesday, October 24 from 8:00a.m. - 12:00p.m.  Visit http://www.911conference.org.

Service Rules for the 698-746, 747-762 and 777-792 MHz Bands/Revision of the Commission's Rules to Ensure Compatibility with E9-1-1 Emergency Calling Systems

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Order extends the deadline for filing comments in response to the Notice of Proposed Rule Making, Fourth Further Notice of Proposed Rule Making, and Second Further Notice of Proposed Rule Making (Notice) until September 29, but retains the reply comment deadline of October 20. The Notice seeks public comment on a variety of licensing and service rules affecting both auctioned and unauctioned spectrum in the 698-746, 747-762, and 777-792 MHz bands (700 MHz Band).  Visit http://hraunfoss.fcc.gov/edocs_public/attachmatch/DA-06-1880A1.pdf for more information.

APCO International Applauds Senate for Deleting VoIP 9-1-1 Loophole

APCO International applauded the Senate for passing legislation that builds on the existing Federal Communications Commission (FCC) rules that require Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) phone companies to connect their customers to the local public safety answering point (PSAP). VoIP 911 Legislation

Senator Burns (MT) along with Senator Nelson (FL) submitted the IP-Enabled Voice Communications and Public Safety Act of 2006 (S. 1063) amendment to the Port Security bill (H.R. 4954). Visit http://www.apcointl.org/government/bills/cr4954-ip911.pdf to view the amendment.

Governors Named to NGA Public Safety Task Force

On the fifth anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks on America, the National Governors Association (NGA) has announced the creation of a Public Safety Task Force in recognition of governors' evolving role and responsibility in enhancing the safety of their states' residents  The new task force will consolidate safety- and security-related issues in what NGA Chair Arizona Gov.
