FCC Seeks Comments on Implementing a Nationwide, Broadband, Interoperable Public Safety
Network in the 700 MHz Band
The FCC seeks comment on its proposal that the 12 MHz of spectrum at 767-773 MHz and 797-803 MHz, currently designated as wideband segments, be allocated for broadband use and that a single, national public safety broadband licensee be assigned this spectrum on a primary basis. Comments are due on or before February 26, and reply comments are due on or before March 12. You can post comments on the FCC's Web Site at http://www.fcc.gov/cgb/ecfs/.
Stevens Introduces 9-1-1 Modernization Act
Senator Ted Stevens (R-Alaska), Vice Chairman of the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee, introduced legislation to expedite the funding for new 9-1-1 technological upgrades using money that Congress has already allocated. PSHSB Provides Guidance for Public Safety Licensees for Public Safety Facilities Added During 800 MHz Band Reconfiguration
Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau (PSHSB) provides guidance regarding license application and Special Temporary Authorization (STA) procedures and payment of costs for rebanding of new or expanded public safety facilities authorized during the transition period. PSHSB Announces Extension of Negotiation Period Between Sprint Nextel and Border Area Non-NPSPAC Licensees in Wave 4, Stage 1 of 800 MHz Band Reconfiguration
The Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau (PSHSB) extends the mandatory negotiation period for border-area non-NPSPAC (Stage 1) licensees in Wave 4 of the 800 MHz Transition Administrator's (TA) band reconfiguration schedule by 90 days from January 2, 2007 to April 2, 2007, and postpones the beginning of the mediation period for such licensees until April 3, 2007.
